Diphenyl carbonate (also known as diphenyl carbonate ) is an organic chemical compound. At room temperature, it is as a white, almost odorless solid before.
Production
Diphenyl carbonate is produced industrially by transesterification of dimethyl carbonate with phenol. However, there are many other methods known to those of diphenyl carbonate may be prepared as the direct oxidative carbonylation of phenol with carbon dioxide, or the transesterification of dialkyl oxalates with the phenol.
Use
Diphenyl carbonate is often used for the production of polycarbonates using. Here, a transesterification with bisphenol A, special interest is carried out, this reaction, since it avoids the use of highly toxic phosgene.
