Benzhydrol and diphenylmethanol ( C6H5) 2CHOH is a secondary alcohol. It is used in the pharmaceutical industry.
Representation
The easiest way benzhydrol is to show by means of the Grignard reaction of phenylmagnesium bromide and benzaldehyde. Benzhydrol can be represented, among others, also by reduction of benzophenone with zinc dust in alkaline solution. As a reducing agent may be used in methanol and sodium borohydride here.
Properties
Benzhydrol melts between 65 and 67 ° C and boiling 297-298 ° C.
Use
It is used in the pharmaceutical industry.
