Dirk Brossé

Dirk Brossé ( born February 18, 1960 in Ghent) is a Belgian composer and conductor.

Life and work

Dirk Brossé began his musical education at the Academy of Music with Georges Vanhoute, a trombonist of the Belgian military brass band, the Groot Harmonieorkest van de Belgische Gidsen, who gave him a substantial impetus to professionally focus on the theme of music. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent, music theory, harmony, trumpet and piano. Here he graduated with a diploma and then moved to the Royal Conservatory of Brussels where he completed his studies in counterpoint and fugue. He continued his studies in Anton Kersjes and Lucas Vis orchestral conducting studies with Julius Kalmar completed his abilities. François Glorieux, Frederic Devreese and Leonard Bernstein as lecturers have left a lasting impression. Finally, he studied at the Musikhochschule in Cologne with Volker Wangenheim.

1974 and 1979 make him as principal trumpet with the National Youth Brass Band Belgium and with the National Youth Orchestra of Belgium to the United States of America. 1981 and 1983 he accompanied the World Youth Orchestra in the concert tours. Since 1984, he appears as a guest conductor in Chicago, Vienna, Cologne and Amsterdam. Since 1999 he has been artistic director of the Tokyo International Music Festival and the Flemish film festivals. He founded the Trumpet Choir in Brussels.

Brossé is Professor for conducting and composition at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent and is the Artistic Director of the Symphony Orchestra of Brussels, chief conductor of the National Youth Orchestra of Belgium. He has conducted, among others, The London Philharmonic Orchestra, The Philharmonic Orchestra of Shanghai, KBS Symphony Orchestra (South Korea), The World Symphony Orchestra (Japan), The Ulster Symphony Orchestra of Northern Ireland, The Camerata (Saint Petersburg ), the Philharmonic Orchestra (Rotterdam), The London Symphony Orchestra and the national Orchestra of Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador.
