Dirk I, Count of Holland

Dietrich I, Count in Frisia († probably 939) was the founder of the Dutch Count line.

He was probably the son and successor to the ruling in West Friesland Count Gerolf (see Gerulf of Kennemerland ). His brother was Walger Count of Tiesterband.

He was long a faithful follower of his liege lord, the King Charles the Simple. As a reward he received on 15 June 922, the Church of Egmond, along with many estates in the area, in the current North Holland ( between Suithardeshaghe and Fortrapa and Kinnem ). It was later monastery of Egmond.

He married Geva (c. 895 ), daughter of Meginhard of Hamalant (c. 860). His successor ( son or likely grandson) was Dietrich II

Later he joined the rebellion of the dukes of Lorraine against King Louis and is probably like 939 at the Battle of Breisach.
