Dirk Sterckx

Dirk Sterckx ( born September 25, 1946 in Herent ) is a Belgian politician for the Liberal Party Open Vlaamse en Democraten (Open VLD). From July 1999 to September 2001 he was a member of the European Parliament.

Life

Sterckx studied German at the University of Ghent and graduated in 1969 with the licentiate. He then worked as a teacher for the subjects Dutch, English and German at secondary schools in the Antwerp area.

In 1975, Sterckx to the television station Belgian Radio -en Televisieomroep (BRT ) (now VRT), where he worked as a journalist. From 1980 he was a correspondent of the BRT in the European Community. 1986 Sterckx final editor of the news program " VRT journaal " which he hosted from 1996 to 1994, copy editor and moderator of the information program " Terzake ".

1999 Sterckx was elected to the European Parliament and confirmed in the 2004 European elections in office. He is a member of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, and Chairman of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China and a member of the Conference of Delegation Chairmen and the Committee on Transport and Tourism.

Sterckx is a member of the municipal council of Lint since 2001. From February to June 2004 he was chairman of the Flemish Liberals en Democraten.
