Disc protrusion

The intervertebral disc protrusion (also disc bulge or " incomplete herniation " ) is a degenerative change in the intervertebral discs. Here, the annulus fibrosus is ( fiber ring ) in contrast to the ( complete ) herniated disc not or only very slightly torn through the disc, but bulging outward.

A protrusion usually only triggers symptoms in the spine from ( lumbago ), rarely a complete intervertebral disc syndrome with radiation of pain into the outer extremities.

The therapy of a protrusion is created ( ie non- surgical) usually conservative. These include manual therapy as part of a physiotherapy or osteopathic treatment. In parallel, analgesics such as ibuprofen or diclofenac are used for temporary pain often. If there is continuous pain syndrome for several months out also methods such as periradicular therapy are sometimes used in targeted pain therapy.
