Disco King Mario

Disco King Mario (* Bronx, New York City; † around 1994 ) was a pioneer of hip- hop. Mario was in the 1970s one of the leading DJs in the Bronx. He was famous for its block parties.

Together with his crew Chuck Chuck City, he released several mixtapes. He borrowed Afrika Bambaataa technical equipment for its first performances as a DJ, Bambaataa first DJ battle took in 1976 in the New York Junior High School 123 against Mario instead. The later known DJ Jazzy Jay had his first gigs together with Marios Chuck Chuck City. Together with Bambaataa controlled Mario at times the entire southeastern Bronx. Both were originally a member of the Black Spades gang and DJs had to either get from Bambaataa Zulu Nation or by Marios Chuck Chuck City a permit before they could safely lay public.
