Discovery (1602 ship)

The discovery was a " Flyboat " with 20 tons and 38 feet in length of the British East India Company. The ship was built before 1602. It took six expeditions in search of the Northwest Passage.

The Discovery was the smallest of three ships that took part in the trip, led by Christopher Newport, was founded in 1607 whose result of Jamestown in the new Colony of Virginia. When Newport returned to London, he left the Discovery for use by the colonists.

Replicas of Discovery and its larger sister ships, the Susan Constant and the Godspeed located on the James River at Jamestown Settlement (formerly Jamestown Festival Park ), adjacent to the National Historic Site of Jamestown.

A new Discovery was built in Boothbay Harbor in Maine and left in September 2006 to form water. The current replica in Jamestown was shipped for a tour on the occasion of the celebrations for the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown in the UK and there shown at the Museum in Docklands, London.
