History

The Discworld MUD was published in 1992. It will be carried out continuously updates. Originally, the play area was limited to a rather small part of the city of Ankh- Morpork, the passage of time, however, more and more other places and spaces according to the descriptions in the novels and other publications have been added. Meanwhile, the game simulates several large cities ( Ankh- Morpork, Bes Pelargic, Genoa and Djelibeybi ) on two continents, a large number of smaller towns and more than one million rooms that make up the country between the cities and towns.

The Admin team of the Discworld has the source code used already published several times, so that other MUDs can be created on this basis.

Player interaction

Chat

For Entertainment presents the MUD a talker system with some pre-made channels, such as a general chat channel, channels for development and organization and channels for the many players clubs and associations available. Some examples are the taxi channel (where you can get magical transport through the Discworld ), Begorrah ( for Irish players to entertain themselves or to organize meetings in real life ).

Role-playing & Player vs.. Player

The role play is optional, and there are players who have multiple characters and the same " in -character " and play "out- of-character ". Organize, interact socially, " numberchasing " ( hunting for experience points and thus for better skills ) - there are ways to spend the time on the Discworld. Player versus player interaction exists on a opt -in basis ( you choose whether you want to do it ). The choice is obtained only after the character was at least 2 days in game.

Atmosphere

Probably due to the humorous keynote of Pratchett's books, the atmosphere in the Discworld MUD is classified as teasing, with a general love for follies and nonsense.

Operation

The fundamental mechanics of the game MUDs based on the ' stat / skill ' division, with the ' stats ' ( statistics) of a player in relation to the corresponding values , which are semi-permanent and the ' skills' ( skills ). These skills can be improved by learning from other characters or by yourself. But experience points must be spent.

Guilds

A large part of the original intention for the Discworld MUD is to remove from the restrictive class system and to allow each player with enough effort and progress was ( almost) do everything. Each character can be a choice of guilds to join, a combination of class and in-game organization and each guild has several unique abilities that no other has. Many mundane features such as hit points, perception and the ability to swim are not affected by the choice of the guild. While players continue to develop and benefit from each skill, players get extra bonuses and skill sets within the skills of their craft.

There are six classes: Warrior, Mage, Priest, Witch, Thief and Assassin. Over several years, these large classes were divided into several specialized guilds with regional and cultural influences and equipped with little more more specific skills.
