Diselenide

Diselenides are covalent chemical compounds of the type R -Se -Se -R '. If the organic radicals R and R 'are the same, it is a symmetrical diselenide. If the radicals R and R 'are different, the diselenide is asymmetrical. Ionic (mostly inorganic ) compounds, the diselenide Ion -Se -Se - contain the hot diselenides, but make a separate group of substances dar. Both groups can be regarded as derivatives of the unstable Diselans H2Se2. Diselenides are the selenium analogues of the disulfides.

Synthesis

Symmetric organic diselenides can be prepared by direct introduction of Diselen group in organic molecules or by oxidation of selenols. The autoxidation of selenols air supplies diselenides.

Reactions

In the reduction of organic diselenides arise selenols. As a reducing agent while sodium is often used.
