DiskCryptor
DiskCryptor ( dcrypt ) is a free software ( GPLv3 ) for Windows operating systems to encrypt hard drives and removable media.

Operation
To encrypt the symmetric cryptosystems AES 256, Twofish, Serpent, or cascades can be used from each of the XTS mode.
Existing partitions can be encrypted in place. Passwords can be cached and encrypted volumes are automatically mounted by default. This needs to be entered only once per session, a password to open automatically after all the disks so accessible can.
Encryption of the system partition
DiskCryptor is the first subject to GPL program for the complete encryption ( Windows ) system partitions. For encrypted systems, it also supports hibernation. The password to start the operating system in its own bootloader entered ( pre-boot authentication ), which can also be launched on external storage media and are from there. DiskCryptor supports both Windows and Linux boot loader.
History
On 19 November 2007 the first public version was released. The version 0.3 of 17 July 2008 represents the first stable version
From version 0.1 to 0.4 TrueCrypts file format was used. With version 0.5 dated 26 December 2008, the data format has been adapted and is incompatible to that of TrueCrypt. Up to version 0.2 beta DiskCryptor also contained TrueCrypt source code.
