Dissimilation
As dissimilation is called in phonology the Entähnlichung two or more similar sounds within a word.
Examples
- The ch in chs sequence (eg, in six or fox ) was originally pronounced as a fricative. This debate has the words " sixteen " and " sixty " receive, as well as in certain areas (eg in Switzerland). Since it also is a fricative at s, a dissimilation has been made, so that ch is pronounced as / k /.
- Latin meridies ( ' lunch ') from * medidie ( locative of this medius )
- Spanish alma ( ' soul ') from Latin anima
