Distillers grains

DDGS ( Dried Distillers Grains with Solubles, DDGS ) falls in a plant for the production of bioethanol from starchy grains after drying the stillage to Abprodukts. After drying, the DDGS can be pelletized. The storable animal feed produced in this way is referred to as DDGS.

Due to its high protein content of sometimes up to 30% and a favorable energy content is DDGS as feed for livestock, preferably dairy cows used. In Germany, the DDGS is not yet widely used as feed a large area. About the use of DDGS in particular when fed to dairy cows may be resorted to extensive practical experience in the U.S., where the DDGS is widely used. Worldwide provides DDGS for soybean and rapeseed the third most abundant protein feed for livestock dar.

In terms of price, the DDGS moves at 125 € / t (November 2006). With only small price changes can be expected, since the offer with increasing bioethanol demand is seen to increase, but in return, go back the DDGS imports. At the same time the cost of bioethanol production can be suppressed by the sale. Another way to reduce costs is to burn the DDGS in a connected biomass cogeneration plant.
