Distress signal

A distress signal is an emergency in the form of non-verbal communication in order to summon help in an emergency acoustic ( sound icon) or visually (eg light characters). Which signal is used in a particular situation, is also dependent on the capabilities and the environment. The most famous is the SOS sign, as the letter sequence has naturalized as a distress signal, although this was originally a code.

Seafaring

In the maritime use various internationally recognized distress signals for display of emergencies at sea in accordance with Annex IV of the Collision Regulations and the International Code of Signals or the manual for search and rescue.

Alpine nature

In the Alpine region, the Alpine distress signal serves as a cry for help, which is also known as an international " distressed " signal. These six short signals of any type at intervals of 10 seconds are given. Alternating with one minute rest, this is repeated continuously. In response serve three signals at intervals of 20 seconds, repeated after one minute.

Police

Within the German police emergency signal whistle is by " short -short-long ". If this signal has been heard, the response is " short-short - short".
