Districtus Austriae Controllatus

Districtus Austria Controllatus (DAC ) is a denomination of origin for typical regional quality wines from Austria.

The term DAC is granted by regional committees wine to those wines that represent their region of origin in an unmistakable manner. In 2002, the origin was the introduction of the appellation system DAC ( Districtus Austria Controllatus ) of Austria's wine hierarchy for the first time put on the vine. The aim is to combine typical wines of a region under a common brand, thus creating larger quantities of wine with an assignable stylistics.

In the DAC wine regions and wines without DAC designation may be produced. So may not be used for the DAC approved grape varieties. However, it should not then be denoted by the geographical indication corresponding to the DAC, the wine. Instead, a parent region name may be used, for example, instead of Lower Austria wine district. This is for five of the seven currently furnished DAC important because they carry the same name as the historic wine region. Even for the newly adopted DAC Lake Neusiedl, it will be important, as no new wine region to be defined by a new name for him.

For the DAC and the DAC Leithaberg Eisenberg new wine regions are defined and introduced new names. The wines of the historic wine area Lake Neusiedl Neusiedl Hill Country and Southern Burgenland can therefore be as usual placed on the market.

All previous DAC located in the wine growing region Weinland Austria, which includes the growing areas of the provinces of Lower Austria and Burgenland. The four DAC in the province of Lower Austria ( Kamp, Krems Valley, Traisental and wine quarter ) each have their own committee. In Burgenland, it should remain at a committee ( the "Committee Burgenland " ), which is currently responsible for the DAC already Eisenberg, Leithaberg and Central Burgenland.
