Disulfite

Disulfites or pyrosulfites disulfates also known as (IV), and salts of non-existent in the free form disulfurous acid ( H2S2O5 ), which is also called Pyroschweflige disulfuric acid, or (IV). The disulfites the general formula M2S2O5 ( M = monovalent metal such as K or Na). You can as an addition compound of sulfur dioxide SO2 and H2SO3 sulfurous acid are considered. They have quite a long, slightly stable, sulfur -sulfur bond: [ O2S - SO 3] 2 -. In aqueous solution, therefore, is readily carried out by hydrolysis in HSO3 - hydrogen sulfite.

Disulfites find the same practical use as the sulfites and can be used as a reducing agent. As a food additive to be added as a preservative, an antioxidant or color stabilizing agent.
