Diving platform

A diving board is a device for water jumping in an outdoor pool or indoor pool. Competition levels are at 1 meter springboard and 3 meters from a springboard diving at 5, 7.5 and 10 meters from a platform ( for training purposes, it is also 1 - m and 3- m- platforms). A jump system can be built on the edge of a swimming pool; However, for safety reasons it is often installed on a separate diving pool in a laterally adjacent to the swimming pool diving area or ( for larger systems ). Diving platforms are often architectural works of art and symbol of the swimming pools.

Diving platforms are subject to specific building codes. In it, the side clearance of the boards and platforms to each other and to the pelvic rim, the dimensions of the railing and the water depths are regulated, what is the prevention of accidents. At sufficiently large distances may require a simultaneous jump operation of several or even all the boards or platforms is possible. 10 - meter platform and one above the other and therefore for - For space and cost reasons, smaller plants (1 m, 3 m and possibly 5 m) or combined-cycle plants are often built in which, for example, the 5 -, 7.5 that holding only alternately released.

The risk-free for jumping (also head jumps) required water depth is not proportional to the jump height, but grows less intensely. For a 3 - meter board a pool depth of 3.50 m is common, with a 5 - m tower about 4.00 m and a 10 m tower between 4.50 m and 5.00 m.

Diving platforms often consist entirely of stainless steel (V4A - 1.4571) or from a combination of a galvanized and painted steel base ( S235JR - formerly St37) with stainless steel railings. Alternatively, jump towers of concrete can be built with stainless steel railings. Since the end of 2004, there are new pan-European standards for diving platforms. They mainly concern the railing. These now need to be much more stable than before and may not be surmountable. Jump towers made of stainless steel should be performed if possible electro-polished to prevent rust by aggressive chlorine vapors.

For individual practice parachute jumps, there are special facilities, see parachute jump tower.
