Dixie Kid

Dixie Kid ( born December 23, 1883 Aaron Lister Brown in Fulton, Missouri, † April 6, 1934 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American boxer.

Professional career

The welterweight Dixie Kid, an unorthodox counter- boxer who usually provoked his opponents with low-hanging cover, 1900 was pro. On 29 April 1904 he won the first world championship fight between two Black by a allegedly shifted combat the world title against the legendary Joe Walcott of Barbados. Walcott was disqualified for no apparent reason in the twentieth round and the referee should have bet on a victory of Dixie Kid. Just two weeks later there was an indecisive rematch and the title stayed with Dixie.

How long he remained world champion is controversial because it often competing against larger boxer and Walcott was called shortly after world champion, some historians describe him as world champion until 1908.

He fought against, among others, Jimmy Clabby, Mike " Twin" Sullivan, Willie Lewis, Sam Langford and Georges Carpentier, whom he beat in France KO 1911.

In 2002, Kid was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
