DIYbio

DIYbio (of Do It Yourself and biology ) is an organization within one of Cambridge (Massachusetts ) outbound movement of amateur biologists, which has more than 1,600 followers in the United States and worldwide. There are meetings in North America, the UK, France and Denmark. The goal is to steer the social awareness on existing biotechnological practice and to allow interested layman access to scientific issues. The initiative works with concepts of synthetic biology. The lay - researchers organize inter alia, Projects for low-cost construction of laboratory equipment (eg OpenPCR ). While the experiments of this so-called bio- hackers are often conducted in private rooms ( eg kitchens, garages ) with inadequate biotechnical security.
