Djevdet Bey

Cevdet Bey or Cevdet Belbez was during the First World War Governor ( Vali ) of the vilayet Van in the Ottoman Empire. The province had a large Armenian minority. He was one of the main responsible for the genocide of the Armenians in the province.

Cevdet led the vilayet ( province ) of Van from 1914 until the evacuation of Muslims from the province in May 1915. He was the successor of Tahsin Bey, who was deposed by the Ottoman central government in Constantinople Opel.

In resistance in Van Aram Manukyan Cevdet Bey commanded the Ottoman 3rd Army - along with Halil Bey, the commander of the gendarmerie, Lieutenant Colonel Koprulu Kâzım Bey and the Venezuelan adventurer Rafael de Nogales.

Cevdet Bey was the brother of Enver Pasha. In the film Ararat in 2002, won the award in the Film Festival "Golden Apricot " Cevdet Bey is presented in a film within the film by Elias Koteas.
