Djibo

Djibo is a city in the north of Burkina Faso with 60 599 inhabitants ( 2006 census ). It is the capital of the province of Soum in the Sahel region.

Djibo was founded in the 16th century and was the capital of the Fulani Emirates Djelgodji, in the 19th century it was dominated by Massina. Most important of these are the Fulani. The city is known for its cattle market.
