Djibril Diop Mambéty

Djibril Diop Mambéty (* 1945 in Colobane in Dakar; † 23 July 1998) was a Senegalese actor and director.

Mambéty finished an acting training and worked in Senegalese and Italian films. In 1969 he turned his short film " Contras'city ", the year after the movie " Badou Boy " about a street boy in Dakar. His first feature film made ​​sure that Mambéty name was future with that of his compatriot Ousmane Sembene mentioned in the same breath. For " Touki Bouki " (1972) he was awarded the Critics' Prize at Cannes. " Touki Bouki " is imaginatively told story of a young couple who wants to have to travel to Paris. In the same year Mambéty remained at some time in Rome, where he met, among others, Pier Paolo Pasolini.

It took more than 15 years until Mambéty was finishing his next film: The short film " Parlons Grand -mère " (1989) was implemented at the edge of the shooting of Idrissa Ouédraogos " Yaaba " in Burkina Faso. Early nineties opened Mambety in Dakar a school: the " Foundation YAADI Koone - pour l' enfance et la nature ". In 1992, he turned " Hyènes " according to Dürrenmatt's "The Visit of the Old Lady ." The last years have been the project of the trilogy " Histoires de petites gens" dedicated.
