Dmanisi Municipality

The municipality Dmanisi (Georgian დმანისის მუნიციპალიტეტი; Azerbaijani Başkeçid Rayonu; Russian Дманисский муниципалитет ) is part of the Georgian region of Lower Kartli. Capital is the city of Dmanisi. Previously wore municipality and city name or Baschketschid Baschkitscheti, who comes from the Azerbaijani language. In 1947 the name was changed and replaced by a name of Georgian origin.

According to the Statistical Office of Georgia, the population of the municipality was in early 2006 about 28 400 inhabitants, or 0.6 % of the total population of the state. Azerbaijanis are the largest population group ( 67%), then come Georgians (31% ), Greece (0.8%) and Russians ( 0.6%).

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the economic performance of the municipality Dmanisi has declined sharply. Today, it is rural. The proportion of Rajons in milk production in Georgia was 2.3 %, in wheat and potato production 2.4%.
