Dmitri Shepilov

Dmitri trofimovich Shepilov (Russian: Дмитрий Трофимович Шепилов; * 23 Oktoberjul / 5 November 1905greg in Ashgabat, Russian Empire, today Turkmenistan, .. † 18 August 1995 in Moscow ) was a Soviet politician and Minister of Foreign Affairs 1956 until 1957.

Life

Shepilov on July 12, 1955 Member of the Central Committee of the CPSU and on February 27, 1956 candidate for the Politburo. On 1 June 1956 he was the successor of the Soviet Foreign Minister Molotov. He was considered a close associate of Khrushchev and is said to have contributed to the policies of the new opening to the West. On July 29, 1957 Shepilov was excluded after an attempted coup against Khrushchev together with Molotov, Kaganovich and Malenkov from the Politburo. His successor as Foreign Minister Gromyko was his former deputy.
