Dmitri Tertyshny

Dmitri Valeryevich Tertyschny (Russian: Дмитрий Валерьевич Тертышный; born December 26, 1976 in Chelyabinsk, Russian SFSR, † 23 July 1999 the Okanagan Lake, British Columbia, Canada) was a Russian ice hockey defender, who for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League played.

Career

Dmitri Tertyschny began his career with HC Traktor Chelyabinsk in the Russian Super League. In 1995 NHL Entry Draft, he was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round at position 132. But he remained for another three years in Russia, where he became a defender, a great grasp of the physical play on the defensive.

In the summer of 1998 he went to North America and the Philadelphia Flyers could be in the squad prevail. He played a good rookie season and came to an insert in the playoffs.

During the summer break on July 23, 1999, a momentous accident happened. With two players, the farm team of the Flyers, Francis Bélanger and Mikhail Chernov, he went on a boat tour of the Okanagan Lake in British Columbia. As a wave hit the boat, Tertyschny fell headfirst into the water. The boat ran over him and the propeller severed his neck and his carotid artery.

Dmitri Tertyschny is survived by his wife, who was pregnant at the time of the accident in the fourth month.
