Dmitry Gennadyevich Medvedev

Dmitry Medvedev Gennadjewitsch (Russian Дмитрий Геннадьевич Медведев; * 1970 in Kemerovo, RSFSR, Soviet Union, † April 15, 2005 in Grozny, Chechnya, Russia) was a Soviet and Russian soldier and lieutenant colonel. Medvedev was posthumously as " Hero of Russia " award on May 18, 2005 by Vladimir Putin, the then President of Russia.

Biography

Medvedev was born in 1970 in Kemerovo. His father was a miner and wanted his son made a career in the military. Medvedev began in 1988 at the university of the border troops of the USSR in Alma- Ata to study. After graduation, he did his duty in the Far East. Later he served in the regional administration of the FSB in the North Caucasus. Medvedev took part in operations to restore the constitutional order in Tajikistan during the Tajik civil war.

In April 2002, Medvedev pledged to a special unit, and was several times stationed in the North Caucasus, where he was involved in operations against insurgents.

For his services he was awarded the Medal of Merit for the Fatherland, Second Class, two medals for bravery ( Медаль За отвагу ) and a Medal for Merit in the protection of the state border ( За отличие в охране государственной границы ) excellent.

On 15 April 2005, Medvedev and two other members of his Special Forces were killed when they carried out an operation in Grozny.
