Dmitry Rovinsky

Dmitri Alexandrovich Rowinski (Russian Дмитрий Александрович Ровинский, scientific transliteration Dmitri Aleksandrovich Rovinsky; * 16.jul / August 28 1824greg in Moscow, .. .. † 11.jul / June 23 1895greg in Bad Wildungen ) was a Russian politician, art historian and art collector.

Life

In 1844, he completed his law studies, since 1853, he served as Gouvernementsanwalt in Moscow. As Adelsdeputierter the city Zvenigorod, he participated in the liberation of the Russian serfs. He became a lawyer in 1866 Moscow Chamber Court on newly formed and in 1868 president of the Moscow Court of Appeal. In 1870 he was made an honorary member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, and in 1881 a corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. Rowinski collected for years throughout Europe drawings, graphics and cartoons about Russia and the policies of the European powers. From 1884 to 1891 he gave these graphics as " materials for a Russian iconography " in twelve folders in few copies out. Today nurmehr exist three known copies of this collection. They are located in London, Moscow and - for several years - in Halle ( Saale).

In 2006, all the drawings of the "Materials" commented by Halle church historian Hermann Goltz were issued.
