Dnepr M-72

The M72 ("M" for " Motozikl ", Russ Мотоцикл for motorcycle) is a Soviet motorcycle that was manufactured from 1941 to 1957 in the Irbit motorcycle works ( Ural works ). It was very often used with a replica of the German Behördenbeiwagens Steib TR500 sidecar as. In the first years of construction, the M72 was an exact copy of the BMW R 71 (manufactured 1938-1941 ).

The engine of the M72 is a page- controlled 2 - cylinder four-stroke boxer engine in Auslegegung square ( bore and stroke are the same) 78 × 78 mm. The maximum power is 16 kW (22 hp) at 4950/min. The bike weighs about 220 kg ready for use, as a team about 350 kg. The maximum load as a team is 250 kg.

The M72 was used by the Red Army in World War II as an all-terrain vehicle. However, since they proved to be unsuitable for difficult terrain, the M72 was soon improved, including: New air filter with oil, higher -laid front fender and rear fender bracket for better unfolding of the fender to make it easier to change a wheel and gusset plates on the rear shock mount. The gusset plates had become necessary because increasingly the framework fractures occurred under conditions of use.

Based on the M72 the models of brands Ural and Dnepr was developed later.
