Dnepr (motorcycle)
Dnepr or Dnipro ( among other things :), transcribed in German also having the Dnieper River, is a trade name for motorcycles and motorcycle sidecars from Kiev, Ukraine, has been used since 1977.
Since 1946 motorcycles in Kiev Motorcycle Plant ( Kyivs'kyi Mototsikletnyi Zavod ) are produced. The Dnepr motorcycles and the other Soviet trademark of the Ural motorcycle Irbit works based on the BMW R 71 from 1941 was the M 72, a copy of the Irbit Molotov M72 " Motozikl " (incorrectly referred to as " Molotov " ) was built. The IMZ Ural supplied parts to it yet.
In 1956 came the K -750, with a new swing chassis, first with a short swing fork, later with telescopic forks. Then the models K -650, MT -9, MT -11 and MT -16 were produced, all with OHV engines and in principle the K750 chassis.
1989 2 million machines had already left the assembly line. At its peak, 9,000 people were employed by IMZ Ural. Motorcycles for civil production had, however, a very bad reputation and a few loyal fans operate after complete reconstruction of such a machine.
