Doab

Doab (Hindi: दोआब, Urdu: دوآب, Doab ) refers to a location in South Asia between two rivers region. The name comes from the Persian Doab and comprises do for " two " and āb for " water flow " together ( see also Panjab ). In particular, the term refers to the Doab region between the rivers Ganges and Yamuna in northern India.

The rivers Ganges and Yamuna both originate in the Himalayas and flow through more than 500 kilometers, parallel through the Gangetic Plain, before they unite in Allahabad. Between them lies the average 100 kilometers wide Doab. At its edges are called Khada river plains, the central area consists of extremely fertile loamy soils that have been heaped up during the Pleistocene and offer the best conditions for farming.

The term Doab is also used for other regions, as for the area between the rivers of the Punjab regions or the Raichur Doab, between the rivers Krishna and Tungabhadra in Southern India.
