History

The Doak Campbell Stadium, named after the university president for construction, was opened on October 7, 1950 with a game against the Randolph -Macon College Yellowjackets. The Seminoles won the game 40:7. The construction of the stadium cost U.S. $ 250,000 and the original seating capacity was 15,000. In 1954, the seating capacity was expanded to 19,000 for the first time. 1961 added another 6,000 seats. Over the years, the stadium was expanded several times due to the growing student body and in particular thanks to the sporting success under coach Bobby Bowden and reached in 2003 its present capacity. On 20 November 2004, the field was named after Bobby Bowden Field.
