Region

Doba is a city in southern Chad with 26 194 inhabitants ( 2009 calculation ).

The town is the capital of the Logone Oriental Region and the Department Pendé as well as the seat of a Catholic diocese.

Economy

1989, oil was discovered in the region, the stocks were estimated at 130 million tons. The importance of the site has increased since the U.S. companies Exxon Mobil and Chevron Texaco added oil production together with the Malaysian Petronas. The oil field extends over the border to Cameroon, a 1070 km long pipeline connects it since October 10, 2003 with the Cameroonian port of Kribi on the Atlantic.

Archeology

During the construction of the 1070 km long oil pipeline of the longest archaeological section of Africa was created. In the hundreds of rescue excavations of archaeological sites from the Mesolithic to the Iron Age came to light.
