Dobberworth

The Dobberworth, also Dubberworth, is one of the largest burial mounds in Northern Germany and is located on the southern edge of town location on Ruegen Sagard. The grave hill with a height of 15 m and an estimated volume of 22,000 cubic meters, a circumference of 150 m and a diameter of 40 m reprimanding biggest hill grave. Its date of origin is unknown, suspected the Bronze Age. The origin of the name is also unsure of the name part -worth could be caused by words or mound and indicate a higher court.

According to legend, the Dobberworth was built by a giant who wanted to fill up the ford between the Great and Little Jasmund and on the way lost the brought earth. A version of this legend attributes this to a giantess whose love was not returned to the Prince of Rügen and went zornentbrannt to the same on the way to take revenge. Another version writes the Dobberworth to the giant Scharmak who wanted to visit his girlfriend. Another legend is about under the earth, who live in Dobberworth there and guard treasures.
