The Rio Doce [ ˌ χiu dɔsi ] (" Sweet River " literally ) is a river that flows into the Atlantic Ocean in southeastern Brazil. From its source in the Serra do Espinhaço, Minas Gerais to the mouth 100 km north of Vitória in the state of Espírito Santo, it measures 590 km. Before the mouth is a Barre.
More important places on the river are Ponte Nova, Ipatinga, Governador Valadares, cola and Tina Linhares.
Since the beginning of the 19th century, the basin of the river by German and Italian settlers colonized.
