Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Grounds

The Documentation Centre Nazi Party Rally Grounds is a museum in Nuremberg. It belongs to the association of museums in the city of Nuremberg and is located in the north wing of the designed by the Nazis, unfinished Congress Hall of the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds. The permanent exhibition Fascination and Terror deals with the causes, contexts and consequences of Nazi tyranny. Issues that have a direct relation to Nuremberg are given particular consideration. The museum is connected to a study forum.

Formation

In 1994, the city council of Nuremberg, the establishment of the Documentation Centre. On November 4, 2001, it was opened by the then Federal President Johannes Rau. The Austrian architect Günther Domenig won the 1998 international competition with his proposal to drill through the north wing diagonally through a walk-in " pile " of glass and steel.

Exhibition

The permanent exhibition Fascination and Terror deals with the causes, contexts and consequences of National Socialism. Aspects that have a clear reference to Nuremberg are highlighted here, since Nuremberg was in the Third Reich as the City of the Party Rallies and has been widely used for propaganda purposes. Among the issues with local relevance include the history of the Party Rallies, the buildings of the Nazi Party Rally Grounds, Nuremberg Laws, the Nuremberg trial against the main leaders of the Nazi crimes 1945/46, and his twelve subsequent trials as well as dealing with the Nazi architectural heritage after 1945. Through the exhibition leads a portable audio guide, which gives the visitor the texts in seven languages.

Education Forum

The attached study Forum is located in the modern glass building on the roof of the front building. A coalition of seven Nuremberg educational institutions allows under the direction of nuremberg municipal museums and a wide target group-oriented program. The offer ranges from 45 minutes up to Ausstellungsnachgesprächen study days and is aimed at school classes, youth and adult groups. The range of content ranges from historical themes such as the power of images, youth between adaptation and resistance, or the system of concentration camp above ground tours up to the human rights work or social learning.

Awards

The Association of British travel writer chose the Documentation Centre in 2002 the world's best tourism project outside the UK. In 2001, the Innovation Award of the Nuremberg region was awarded to the partners in the academic forum of the Documentation Centre Nazi Party Rally Grounds.

Information System

Since May 2006, the exhibition will be complemented in the Documentation Centre by a bilingual information system with 23 pillars in the historic area, which allow an individual tour of the Former Nazi Party Rally Grounds.
