History and Development

The Dodge 500 was very popular in the UK and was also exported. In some cases he was wearing logos of DeSoto and Fargo. The trucks were sold as cab chassis and the customer then took care of the bodies, trailers etc.

The Dodge 500 was developed in the early 1960s; the design came from Ghia, the development of the mechanical components of the Rootes Group in Kew. All wheels were suspended on leaf springs, on request, there were additional rear auxiliary springs. The truck had a diesel engine, which sat under the hinged cab. He was Debuted in December 1964. Customers got the car only primed and painted them according to your wishes. The cab was known for its design, its space and its comfort. It offered good road survey and the engine claimed little space under the cab.

The loading capacity began at 11 tons. the two-axle and three-axle vehicle with enough over the 16 to. to train with 30 tons. Those who wanted less payload, reference was made to the Dodge 100.

Suppliers using a special aluminum-steel alloy has been developed to hold the weight of the chassis to a minimum. Cross beam pipe and U-section were bolted to the side rails. The leaf spring supports are screwed, where possible, of the transverse beams. Cummins diesel engines and Perkins were used.

The buyers had a choice between Cummins V6 and V8 diesel engines, the ( 96-125 kW) delivered 130-170 bhp and the British Perkins diesels with 120 bhp (88 kW). All these engines were very reliable. The gear was hand turned.
