Dodge County (Georgia)

The Dodge County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Eastman, named after William P. Eastman.

Geography

The County is located about 70 km south of the geographic center of Georgia and has an area of 1303 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Laurens County, Wheeler County, Telfair County, Wilcox County, Pulaski County and Bleckley County.

History

Dodge County was formed on 26 October 1870 as the 134th county in Georgia from parts of Montgomery County, the Pulaski County and the Telfair County. It was named after William E. Dodge had, a businessman and speculator from New York, the great land and Waldbesitzungen in Georgia and in 1908 was at its own expense built the first county courthouse.
