Dodge County (Georgia)
The Dodge County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Eastman, named after William P. Eastman.
Geography
The County is located about 70 km south of the geographic center of Georgia and has an area of 1303 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Laurens County, Wheeler County, Telfair County, Wilcox County, Pulaski County and Bleckley County.
History
Dodge County was formed on 26 October 1870 as the 134th county in Georgia from parts of Montgomery County, the Pulaski County and the Telfair County. It was named after William E. Dodge had, a businessman and speculator from New York, the great land and Waldbesitzungen in Georgia and in 1908 was at its own expense built the first county courthouse.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Dodge County 19 574 people in 7,062 households and 4,886 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 68.95 percent White, 29.40 percent Black or African American, 0.18 percent Native American, 0.22 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.76 percent from other races groups; 0.46 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.29 percent of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 7,062 households out of which 32.2 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 50.0 percent were married couples living together, 15.2 percent were single mothers and 30.8 percent were non-families. 27.8 percent of all households and 11.6 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.02 persons.
26.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.7 percent between 18 to 24, 29.5 percent between 25 and 44, 22.6 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.2 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 105.1 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.8 males.
The median income for a household was $ 27,607, and the median income for a family $ 34,718. Males have a median income of $ 27,150, women $ 20,683. The per capita income was $ 14,468. 13.8 percent of families and 17.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
