Doerner Institute

Founded in 1937 Doerner Institut is used to support the holdings of the Bavarian State Picture Collections.

As early as 1932 Walter Graff was planning a " Investigation and Research Institute of paintings and other works of fine art." 1937 saw the establishment of the Institute by Max Doerner, the landscape painter and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich was.

The Institute's mission was originally in it to deal with the Technique of the old masters and to reconstruct in real tests. This work was interrupted by the Second World War. In 1958, the Doerner Institute was affiliated to the Bavarian State Painting Collections and 1977 combined with restoration workshops.
