Does Your Mother Know

April 23, 1979

Does Your Mother Know is a song by Swedish pop group ABBA from the year 1979., It was written and composed by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, the lead vocals are seldom legally adopted by Ulvaeus. The piece was published in April 1979 on her sixth album, Voulez -Vous and was simultaneously released as a single. Kisses of Fire, which was not included on the album, was on the B-side.

The play is about a man flirting with a much younger girl in a nightclub.

Formation

The song was written for Andersson and Ulvaeus ' stay in the Bahamas in January 1979., Where she also developed some other pieces for the album. It is - like the new at that time Voulez -Vous ABBA songs and Summer Night City - a disco number. They were all influenced by the then very often played disco style in the U.S. radio stations. The two composers of ABBA had previously had a writer's block that could overcome them thus. We started with the recording to Does Your Mother Know on February 6, 1979 under the working title " I Can Do It ". The introduction consists of drums, bass, piano, and then guitar tracks.

In February 1979, the group was heading for the purpose of filming a TV special in Switzerland. Here, the song was first performed ten days after the start of recording, but in a version that was later revised. The work on it still lasted until the end of March 1979, before Does Your Mother Know was released in April as a single. According Ulvaeus the success of the single might have been even greater had Agnetha Fältskog and Anni- Frid Lyngstad taken over the lead vocals.

An initially planned Spanish version of the piece was never realized. For various publications in other countries, Does Your Mother Know was mixed differently, so for example for an Australian edition, at the end of the song was cut by about ten seconds. For a Japanese publication, however, the beginning was extended by over two minutes. On April 5, 1979, the group was filming in the Europa Film Studios in Stockholm, the music video for Does Your Mother Know and Voulez -Vous. They each wore different costumes for both performances.

Success

The single from the album was the most successful in the U.S., where she came into the top 20. She succeeded in Mexico and South Africa, as they came in the top ten in Ireland, the Netherlands, Australia, Canada and Zimbabwe, as well as in France and New Zealand in the top 30 in Belgium, she could cite with space 1 the charts.

In France Does Your Mother Know was published together with Voulez -Vous on a blue 12 - inch single. In Argentina and Brazil, the song appeared along with three other album tracks as extended play.
