Dog Islands

The Dog Islands are a small group of islands in the archipelago of the British Virgin Islands.

Geography

The Dog Islands are located about 10 km northeast of the main island of Tortola and approximately 4 km north- west of Virgin Gorda in the Straits Sir Francis Drake Channel.

The uninhabited islands are volcanic in origin and have a total area of approximately 0.7 square kilometers (173 acres ac ).

The group includes the four islands:

  • Great Dog Iceland, the main island, about 0.40 km ² (98 acres)
  • George Dog Iceland, about 0.18 km ² (44 acres)
  • West Dog Iceland, about 0.11 km ² (27 acres)
  • And the very small Cockroach Iceland with about 0.02 km ² (4 acres)

The two approximately 3 km north-eastern Seal Dog Islands are sometimes also counted to the Dog Islands, but are geographically not part of the archipelago.

The waters adjacent to the Dog Islands offer some attractive diving.
