Dog Soldiers

The term dog soldiers ( cheyenne: Hotamitaniu, English: Dog Soldiers ) refers primarily to the fearless Cheyenne warriors who were also known as Dog -Men Warriors. In many of these Indian warriors of the principle was: "Old is not to be good, things, valiantly to beat in battle and dying young is ".

The contrary warrior ( " Hohnuhk ` e ' ) contributed their name because they had to prove their bravery by riding in backwards in battles. They knew a sacred obligation to speak in this way and act. " Contrary warrior " was only one man to whom the thunder had appeared in the form of thunder bird in a dream or in a vision.

In contrast to the other they were in constant combat readiness, but remained at an observation post, as long as a success of the other warriors seemed safe. But these suffered a defeat, it was the object of the dog soldiers to attack the enemy and so long to fight until they themselves were killed or had beaten the adversary to flight.

Except the dog soldiers of the Cheyenne Indians, there were many military companies in Plains Indians, such as the Crazy Dogs ( Mad Dogs ) at the Blackfoot or the warrior covenant of the brave dogs who always had to face the enemy, no matter how much they feared him, they could never leave.

Given the behavior in the fight, it is not surprising that many of these warrior societies did not last long, because its members did not meet with too long life.
