Doggumentary

Doggumentary is the eleventh studio album by American rapper Snoop Dogg. The album was released in Doggy Style Records, as well as Priority Records on March 29, 2011.

Background

The e-zine HipHopDX was on 2 September 2010 known in connection with the publication of a video message from Snoop Dogg, the rapper working with music producer Swizz Beatz on a new album with the working title Doggystyle 2 production should a follow-up to his album Doggystyle be from the year 1993. In November, the working title for the benefit of the title Doggumentary Music was discarded. Was released the album titled Doggumentary.

The album is regarded as his last album for the time being, in which he uses the name Snoop Dogg. The rapper was known in 2012 that he would henceforth call Snoop Lion and make reggae music. The rapper had already in 1996 the name Snoop Doggy Dogg abandoned when he left the music label Death Row Records, which held the rights to names. He changed his name to Snoop Dogg.

Success

Doggumentary in the U.S. climbed to 8th place and in the UK as in Germany ranked 44th in Austria, the album could not slits.

Criticism

In his review for the online music database Allmusic David Jefferies says that Snoop Dogg had abandoned the planned album title as a warning to his fans. During Doggy Style is an album without fillers, Doggumentary arrest on standard mixtapes. There were with reminiscences of Pop ( boom ), the P-Funk legend Bootsy Collins (We Rest n Cali Toyz n da Hood), to Roger Troutman funk band Zapp (We Rest n Cali, Raised in da Hood) or collaborations with the Gorillaz ( Sumthin 'Like This Night ) and Willie Nelson ( Superman ) and the failed Wet Although all the elements for a good album there, but it was with 21 tracks clearly too long.

Rolling Stone writer Jon Dolan says, Snoop Dogg eagerly implore his youth, but in this case has also on the cast with the likes of the genre towards those who are gathered on the album. HipHopDX says do, besides just a few splashes size is the album of the West Coast icon a severe disappointment.

Singles

Three singles were released from the album.

As the first single produced by the American musical duo The Cataracs Wet appeared. A remix of the title by the French DJ David Guetta called Sweat listed in Germany and in Switzerland at number two on the charts. In the UK remix reached number four in Austria and Sweat reached the top chart.

The second single Platinum featured the American Contemporary R & B singer R. Kelly, but could not place in the charts.

Last Featuring a with the U.S. rapper T -Pain was released with boom. It could not repeat the success of Wet / Sweat. The sinlge peaked in the UK Top 40 British No. 56 and in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 76th Place
