Döhle bodies

Dohle bodies are light blue-gray, oval-shaped, basophilic inclusion bodies in the cytoplasm of neutrophils.

Description

The diameter of the Dohle bodies is 1 to 3 microns. The formation of Dohle bodies is still not very much known, but it is assumed that it is rough endoplasmic reticulum remains of which arise from cell maturation disorders. The Dohle bodies can be diagnosed among others, in the May-Hegglin anomaly, burns and certain infections ( scarlet fever, typhoid fever, pneumonia), and the Chediak -Higashi syndrome.

Naming

The Dohle bodies are named after the pathologist Paul Kiel Döhle ( 1855-1928 ). He discovered it in 1911 in patients with scarlet fever.
