Doire

Doire is the name of a département of the First Empire in present-day Italy. It was named after the river Dora Baltea. Founded Doire, when Napoleon occupied the Kingdom of Sardinia in 1802, the capital was Ivrea. It was divided into the three arrondissements Ivrea, Aosta and Chivasso. After the defeat of Napoleon in the wars of liberation in 1814, the Department Doire was dissolved; the former area is divided today on the Turin Province and the Autonomous Region of Valle d'Aosta.
