Dolderbahn

The Dolderbahn is a private railway in the city of Zurich. The cog railway opens up the Dolder area in the district Hottingen from the bus stop at Römerhof Römerhof space on 444 meters above sea level and ends at the station on the Dolder Adlisberg to 606 meters above sea level.

The track is used, together with the connection to the residential district also as a feeder for two hotels, the wave Dolder, the Dolder ice rink open and serving as a recreational area Adlisberg.

History

The operating company was founded in 1893. 1895 the business was incorporated as a funicular railway. It led to a distance of around 800 meters from the Römerhof place to Hotel Waldhaus Dolder at 548 meters above sea level.

To connect to the Grand Hotel Dolder a meterspuriges tram was put into operation on July 5, 1899. It was operated with a single car of the same type as the StStZ cars 57-84. The track had no direct connection to the Zurich tram network; However, provided the StStZ for the maintenance of the motor vehicle and placed over an extended revision replacement cars. On December 31, 1930, the Dolder tram was stopped and a bus took over the connection between Waldhaus and Grand Hotel.

From August 27 1972 to September 29, 1973, the funicular was replaced by a rack railway and extended up to the Grand Hotel Dolder. Since then, it measures 1328 meters and overcomes a height difference of 162 meters with a maximum inclination of 19.6 percent.

Today is the Dolderbahn Operating AG, in Zurich, the city has a 50 percent concession holder. The management is entrusted with its administration department Zurich Public Transport ( VBZ) since 1999, the city of Zurich.

2004, the vehicles, the route and the stations of the Dolderbahn were completely overhauled. The operation was therefore closed down more than three months. As part of the renovation of the Grand Hotel Dolder in the years 2004 to 2008, the hill station was renewed, which is now part of the hotel complex.
