Dolichol

Dolichols are a group of long-chain, polyunsaturated organic molecules consisting of a variable number (n = 16-21) consist of isoprene subunits with an α - saturated isoprene - end with a primary hydroxy group. Most of the double bonds ( Z)- configuration (as in the rubber), but also occur (E)- configurations.

They play a role in the post-translational modification of proteins, specifically the N- glycosylation in the endoplasmic reticulum.
