Dolichos (race)

Dolichos or Dolichus (Greek: Δόλιχος, German: " Long race " ) was a long-distance race in the Olympic Games of antiquity. This race was introduced in 720 BC. The course varied, but was usually 20 stages ( 3845 meters) or 24 rounds ( 4616 meters). The run was similar to the modern marathon. The start and finish were at the stadium, but the barrel then led out of the stadium.
