Dollar General is an American department store chain headquartered in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. In the company around 69,500 employees in 9,112 stores engaged ( as of 27 September 2010). The company was founded in 1939 by Cal Turner in Scottsville, Kentucky.

On 12 March 2007 Dollar General was acquired by the investment company Kravis William Watson and went public in 2009.
