Dom DeLuise

Dominick "Dom " DeLuise ( born August 1, 1933, Brooklyn, New York; † 4 May, 2009 Los Angeles, California ) was an American actor, director, singer and dancer.

Life and work

Dom DeLuise was born in 1933 as son of John and Vincenza DeLuise in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from the High School of performing Arts, he played leading roles at the Cleveland Playhouse, including Kiss Me, Kate and Hamlet. DeLuise made ​​his debut in New York in the off- Broadway production of Little Mary Sunshine. During a summer engagement in Provincetown, Massachusetts, he met the actress Carol Arthur, his future wife. The first time he played on Broadway in Neil Simon's Last of the Red Hot Lovers.

The first television appearance was undertaken as Dominick the Great in the Garry Moore Show. After guest appearances in some vaudeville shows he was offered a contract on the show The Entertainers with Carol Burnett and Bob Newhart. He also spent 12 years an integral part of the Dean Martin Show and in 1968 co-hosted an own broadcast on CBS, the The Dom DeLuise Variety Show.

On the big screen DeLuise was shown for the first time in 1964 in Sidney Lumet's target Moscow ( Fail Safe).
