History

After the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ) Jean- Remy Moët bought in 1823 (according to other sources 1794), the former Abbey of Villers skin, in which the monk Dom Pérignon had lived. 1930 he acquired Moët Chandon and the right to the name brand Dom Pérignon from home Mercier, who had the name but never used, and sold since 1936, a prestige cuvee under the newly purchased name. The idea for this came from the Englishman Laurence Venn. The Grapes of Dom Pérignon 1936 were from the vintage 1921. The vintage 1921 and the following 1926, 1928 (before the year 1926 sold ), 1929 and 1934 were prepared by Transvasierverfahren, only in 1943 was followed by the first own cuvée Dom Pérignon thereby significantly more different from the other brands of Champagne Moët et Chandon.

Trivia

The champagne brand was also well known for the James Bond films, including the well-known saying from the movie Goldfinger (1964 ): "You never drinks as a Dom Pérignon '53, if he has a temperature of about eight degrees. That would be exactly like listening to the Beatles without earmuffs! "
